January 6, 1960: In 1960 a National Airlines DC6B blew up over Wilmington, North Carolina. The plane was destroyed by a dynamite bomb killing all 34 people aboard.

January 6, 1977: the mother of entertainer Frank Sinatra was killed in Palm Springs on a charter flight to Las Vegas.
